The arena sits at the southern end of Yas Island, on the Yas Bay waterfront, with its architecture drawing on Arabic cultural motifs. It has been recognised with a sustainable building award — unusual for a venue of this scale, and part of what makes it a landmark rather than just a big shed.

The location does a lot of the work for visitors: hotels, restaurants and the Yas Bay promenade are all within walking distance, and the island is a short drive from central Abu Dhabi and the airport.
